Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and she also holds the title of most powerful female officer in American history. She is a member and former US senator who represents California. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then appointed to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010, she was elected Attorney General of California and re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for health reform, federal descheduling for cannabis, a path for immigrants who are not legal citizens and the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her provocative questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and was accused of sexual assault.
